The Salvation Army works in the Australian community offering practical and spiritual support to assist people to live their lives to their potential. The Anchor is based five minutes from Newcastle’s CBD and offers short to medium term crisis accommodation for men. The Centre provides a safe and caring environment where clients are provided with assistance to return to stable accommodation Duties include admitting and discharging clients, providing support and assistance, providing referrals, assisting with administration and housekeeping duties. To be successful in this role you will require: - A commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army.
- Experience in a welfare/community service environment.
- Hold, or working toward a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Community Welfare, Social Work, Psychology or other related qualifications.
- Demonstrated ability to empathise with clients experiencing crisis and/or homelessness.
- Demonstrated ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under conflicting time pressures.
- Demonstrated good verbal communication & networking skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Demonstrated effective problem solving skills.
- Drivers License
It would also be desirable but not essential to have: - Proficiency working in a Windows environment using Microsoft Software Products.
- Knowledge and Understanding of Mental Health issues.
